The consignment split into two categories. The more compact machine tools we shipped FCL, with careful loading and securing calculations. The large production lines, which exceeded the dimensions of a standard 40-foot container, were shipped on flat rack platforms: open container frames with removable end walls, designed specifically for this kind of out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo.
The route ran from the Port of Shanghai through the Rotterdam hub to Odesa. For the OOG pieces we separately coordinated port-handling conditions: stevedore operations for oversized cargo, interim storage and transshipment each require additional coordination at every port of call. The FCL and flat rack sailings were synchronised so the entire batch arrived together.
The documentary flow had its own specifics: alongside standard bills of lading and packing lists for the FCL cargo, the oversized items required weight certificates, lashing plans and approval from the shipping line. Assembling the full package in advance meant customs clearance in Odesa proceeded with no demurrage on either the containers or the flat racks.
The result: the entire batch of production equipment, oversized pieces included, reached the client's site right on time for the planned installation start. Transparent tracking at every stage, from freight booking to customs release, gave the plant confidence in the timeline and let it plan the commissioning of the lines in advance.
